Globalisation and its effects on our planet come into relief in Joanne Mott’s sculpture exhibition, Mapped. World globes on stands portray the earth encrusted with thousands of hand-painted colourful map pins. At once familiar and strange, each globe tells a different story; showing the world continents off axis, inside out, out of place or upside down. Historically used to mark territories and places, the map pin signifies power and consumption, asserted at the cost of our environment. This process proliferates to cover the globe, as the world is indeed consumed by mass-produced plastic artefacts.
